Take one context photo, one close view and a short note describing location, date, weather, recent water use, equipment state and occupancy.
3. Track the trigger
Cold outdoor weather and positive indoor pressure.
4. Compare, do not assume
Supports this pathway
- Frost is strongest above or downwind of the hatch
- The hatch gasket is incomplete
- The pattern worsens during colder weather
Weakens this pathway
- Frost is evenly distributed across the attic
- A roof penetration shows a direct wet track
- The hatch area remains unchanged through cold periods
5. Repeat only safe checks
- Inspect the hatch seal from indoors
- Compare surface temperature around the hatch
- Photograph the attic pattern without disturbing frost
6. Decide the next step
If the pattern is active, expanding, safety-related or requires opening inaccessible construction, stop self-help testing and prepare an evidence-based handoff. Air-sealing work should preserve ventilation, electrical clearances and safe attic access.
7. Verify the outcome
After any action, repeat the same observation under a comparable trigger. A dry surface immediately after work is not sufficient proof when the original symptom was intermittent.
