Define the question before measuring
Moisture moving through or around a concrete slab can damage low-permeance flooring and adhesives.
Capture a useful baseline
Record the exact location, date, current weather or equipment state, recent activities and the first visible, audible, sensory or measurable change. Keep one unaffected reference point.
Safe observations to repeat
- Map damage relative to slab edges and plumbing
- Compare covered and uncovered areas
- Use appropriate slab testing before replacement
Compare supporting and weakening evidence

- Bubbling or odor follows slab areas
- Edges or joints show deposits

- A local appliance leak explains the damage
- The subfloor is timber
- The symptom is only surface spill damage
Interpret the result conservatively
Look for a repeatable relationship between trigger, location, timing and change. Treat exceptions as useful evidence rather than forcing every event into one explanation.

Floor removal may expose adhesives or materials requiring hazardous-material assessment.
Close the loop
If work is performed, repeat the same observation under a comparable trigger and through the original lag window. Record both recurrence and non-recurrence events.
