Start with source and affected layers
Describe the evidence for the suspected source, transport path and affected materials. Keep investigation separate from permanent repair when the mechanism remains uncertain. Name access needs and the layers that may be disturbed.
Build the work sequence
- Safety, isolation and evidence preservation.
- Source investigation and controlled access.
- Temporary mitigation and removal boundaries.
- Drying, cleaning or stabilization with documented hold points.
- Permanent repair and compatible reinstatement.
- Post-action verification through the original trigger window.
State who decides whether the scope expands, how hidden conditions are documented and which work requires qualified or authorised trades.
Common incomplete scopes
Watch for finish-only repair, drying without a source plan, source repair without affected-material review, removal without reinstatement detail and completion without a recurrence test.
Verification and boundary
Define readings, photographs, operating conditions, weather events or use cycles that will be repeated after work. Stop ordinary self-help when there is active electrical or combustion danger, sewage, suspected hazardous material, unstable structure, unsafe access, rapidly spreading water, regulated work, acute occupant symptoms or an insurance-preservation reason not to disturb the scene.
